10 Questions With Josh Itiola

hero-image

Josh Itiola is a design go-to with the best collection of lamps. As a planner at Vitsœ, we learned that when it comes to Recreation, museum hopping is a top activity for him as is his recently renewed appreciation for running (weather-allowing of course).

01. How do you describe what you do? Your practice? Your existence?

I am a Planner at Vitsoe, photographer and also a collector and advisor of design objects (lamps are my favorite). I like to see people living with good things.

02. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

I check the weather and debate if I should go for a run or not.

Q3 Gaetano Pesce
Gaetano Pesce, an Italian architect and a design pioneer of the 20th century.

03.What’s your favorite piece of work you’ve created?

Probably being able to shoot a project on Gaetano Pesce

04. What’s your biggest influence?

Yikes, I don’t think I have one. My mind is always running through at least 10 different things at once, but lately I have really been into Samuel Ross’s work over at A Cold Wall*, always love Architect David Adjaye’s work. I have also been studying Afra and Tobia Scarpa, and Enzo Mari’s work.

05. What would be your dream collaboration?

I would love to work with John Pawson. I have always loved his architecture work. It would be cool to do some interior styling for one of his projects. I love the look of tastefully minimal spaces with eye catching objects and furniture in it.

06. How does movement play into your work?

Well with photography, being able to capture the essence of a space requires a lot of observing from different angles. You can shoot a single space and make it look very different by just changing the angle you are shooting. The movement of objects within a space also plays a big part. It’s always a song and dance. I love movement and music.

07. What’s your favorite recreational activity?

I enjoy museum and gallery hopping. I have also recently discovered my love for running.

08. What’s your best tip for Doing Things?

Try not to second guess yourself.  Trust yourself. If you have an idea or project you are excited about, try to figure out the steps you need to do it, and start doing it.

Cam’ron “You Mad” meme

09. What’s your favorite meme?

It’s an oldie, but a goodie. Cam’ron “You Mad” meme for sure. Please Youtube the video if you have no idea what I’m talking about.

10. Where is your favorite place to move?

Running the streets of NYC is the best thing. No matter what time you run or where it’s always an experience. Also running the Harlem side of Central Park is great!
